Back in the day, Sun Bum didn’t have the cash to sponsor a bunch of pro surfers. But instead of letting that get in the way of a good time, they grabbed some friends, called ‘em “judges” and posted up at some of their favorite beaches to watch the locals tear up their home breaks. No applications. No qualifiers. No entry fees. One hour after the horn sounds, somebody walks away with a fat check. They dubbed it Bum Rush Tour, the ambush surf contest series that celebrates ordinary surfers everywhere.

Newcastle, AUS (2025)
The 13th installment of the Bum Rush Tour landed in Australia’s “Steel City” (Newcastle) — a blue-collar paradise located 160 kilometers north of Sydney’s central business district. On a windblown day in April, Australia’s premier aerialists plopped themselves on the beach, watched a local session intently, and handed a $5k check to the surfer they liked the best.
I edited the You Tube  video along with a handful of social clips for Stab and Sun Bum's Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook.

For two reasons, this year’s Bum Rush Tour was unlike any before. First, with surfing’s CEO (Chief Entertainment Officer) and freshly “Sonny” stickered Mason Ho leading the charge, we arrived at one of the most puntable waves on the North Shore. Second, there was $5K and an invitation to a Stab pool party in Japan up for grabs.
The video above was edited by the lovely Nate Leal, but I did create some social clips below.

The 11th year of Bum Rushing brought us to the epicenter of the surf world, where our two judges, Tosh Tudor and Barron Mamiya, have spent the Hawaiian winter scoring endless days of swell at Pipeline.
All I did was edit the socials on this one.
